Divided, we’re weak
There’s no denying that American democracy is under attack. It’s also becoming clear that certain Americans have been manipulated for years. Family and friends have been radicalized by the steady diet of lies and propaganda delivered by partisan media outlets. The forces of misinformation “flood the zone,” sowing distrust and pitting us against each other.
But why?
When Americans are of one mind, we cannot be controlled and their intention is to exert control over all but a few privileged insiders.
We leave the marching and organizing to those better equipped. Our front is the battle for hearts and minds. We seek to reclaim the truth about what it means to be an American in the 21st century and to undo the decades of conditioning that have alienated us from our neighbors. Americans are not the enemy of Americans.
Echoes of America is our response: a bold initiative to create a safe space where anyone can share their understanding of our values without fear. Here, we hope to redefine what it means to be an American by reclaiming the shared ideals that unite us. Each month, contributors — citizens like you who come from all walks of life — share personal reflections on a single theme, exploring how America’s foundational values resonate in modern life. These stories, or “echoes,” challenge the voices of division with thoughtful perspectives and verifiable facts.
As a contributor, you’ll enlighten us with your understanding of that month’s topic. You can write under your own name, under a pen name, or anonymously. No one will be able to comment on your work if we are not in a position to moderate comments. And remember, this isn’t an English assignment. No one gets a bad grade.
Please help us rebuild a shared understanding of American ideals — not with anger or derision, but with truth. Not with division, but with understanding. Because the echoes of America’s past can still shape her future.
Your voice is the solution. Time to speak up.
